Massage Therapist and Client: Getting Too Close?

Massage therapists and their clients can get too close in at least three ways: through transference (bringing unrelated outside needs into the treatment room), power imbalance and off job relationship.

Each problem is discussed. The roles and boundaries which will protect the massage therapist from harm in each situation are discussed. Examples from the National Board (NCBTMB) and various states are given. This has not been preapproved for massage continuing education.
