The Taly Family members discover that they share common interests by meeting elders and learning from them. Through poetry, drawing, letter writing, and science experiments, they realize they have more in common with other people than differences. The purpose of this story is to help young people and their parents realize that they are not alone and that others love them for who they are.
Prevo, the main character, is a precocious young sot. As a member of a secret bird society and a pesky brother, he has chosen a unique path. He manages his own radio show, participates in local science fairs, and is a proud supporter of his father. The father, Marcus Taly, soon throws Prevo’s plans into disarray when he receives orders to deploy to Afghanistan. Prevo and his family and friends must now adjust to changing realities. Some, like Prevo, are resilient, but others struggle. Another key figure in this plot, Mister Thomas Drew, helps to enhance the tension which flows among the characters. Unknown to the youngsters, Mister Drew is their appointed guardian, and he fulfills his role quite beautifully.
This story documents a possible story of a family and how it confronts challenges associated with friendship, separation, and empathy. It attempts to heal by forcing the readers to face their own issues. They may learn by confronting these issues, thereby enabling them to rise above the pain of the present to achieve the promise of their chosen futures.
