It was a skeletal hand and forearm, with desiccated, hairy flesh still clinging to the bones, long gray nails curving wickedly. The five-fingered structure was disturbingly human, but long-fingered like that of a raccoon. John instantly gasped and stood up, backing away from the bed. The scene seemed surreal to him; Grandpa Jack sitting in bed in a pool of yellow light with the box open on his lap, asking about his brother’s death. He tried to control his breathing as he saw Grandpa Jack staring at him, an intent look in his eyes.
“John, this is what I want to tell you about.”...
