Forbidden Symphony is inspired by life stories and historical events, during World War II, based upon Hitler's policy toward Jews and the German government's official policy of anti-Semitism. German-occupied Europe had over twenty-five thousand Jewish refugees with no place to go but to Shanghai, where visas were not required of the Jews. These refugees endured great hardships, but practically most of them miraculously survived the Holocaust and the war.

Forbidden Symphony is a fictional account of the life of a prominent Jewish conductor, the pride of Berlin, Joshua Stern, who, during World War II, survives the infamous Crystal Night but loses his beloved wife who is killed by the Nazis. Joshua escapes to Shanghai, lives through the Japanese occupation of China and falls in love with a Chinese pianist. Two decades later, during the height of the Cultural Revolution, Joshua meets a young Chinese girl who is a violin prodigy. Although the playing of western music is not permitted during the revolution, Joshua, at great risk to himself, secretly trains the young girl to master the violin and she becomes one of the greatest performers in the world, moreover the truth of her life reveals.

Forbidden Symphony is a tale of great struggle over adversity, and the ultimate triumph of the human spirit. It is a story that must be told to the world.
