Kattingeri Krishna Hebbar : b. 1912 in South Kanara, India. Graduated from the Sir. J.J. School of Art, Bombay in 1938. Had further studies at the Academic Julian, Paris— 1949-50.
Has won several top awards including gold medals of the Bombay Art Society, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta, Bombay State Awards and the Lalit Kala Akademi Awards (thrice). In 1961 he received national recognition by being awarded the Padma Shri from the President of India. He is a Fellow of the Lalit Kala Akademi and at present also its Chairman.
Had several one-man shows and participated in many exhibitions held in India and abroad including international shows like Biennale Sao Paulo, Biennale Venice, Triennale India. His paintings are housed in many public and private collections in India and abroad. Publications: “Hebbar”, a De Luxe edition, Nalanda Publication, Bombay, 1948; “Hebbar”, a monograph by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, 1961; “The Singing Line” by Peacock Publication, Bombay, 1964; “An Artist’s Quest” by Abhinav Publications, 1974; “The Singing Line” (Revised edition) by Abhinav Publications, New Delhi, 1982.
