During his sixth voyage, Sinbad the sailor almost perishes when his ship is violently dashed to pieces against tall cliffs. Surviving this disaster, they face one equally as dire in that there is no food on the island and all of Sinbad’s conpanions die of starvation

Sinbad discovers a river running out of a cavern beneath the cliffs so he builds a raft to take him back to civilization.. The stream is filled with precious stones and ambergris which he collects as the raft carries him along.

He eventually arrives in the city of Serendib

The king there asks that he take presents back to Baghdad on his behalf, including a cup carved from a single ruby, a bed made from the skin of the serpent that swallowed the elephant and a slave-girl like a shining moon, and many other gifts. And so Sinbad returns to Baghdad, where the Caliph wonders greatly at the reports Sinbad gives of the land of Serendib.
