Watching the Watchers

Happenstance lands the writer first in a police training institute, where he is given firearms training and learns "hard-hand" tactics, and second on a jury in a trial involving officers who tase and then manhandle a young man during a routine traffic stop. The experience gives the reader a chance to join the writer as he struggles to think clearly about the role of the police, the effect of race on the justice system, and other thorny issues.
