Someone is murdering patients at the Jefferson Barracks Veteran's Hospital in St. Louis. Suspicions circle around a priest who administers to the homeless. The first victim is poisoned while sitting in the waiting room of the hospital. The second is skewered to a seat in the hospital theater. Witnesses have placed the priest at both crime scenes.
Canton Fish, Independent Crime Scene Investigator and also a patient at the V.A. is solicited to assist in the investigation. He is aided (and hindered) by a carnival of characters: a naive Chief of Police, an obnoxious millionaire U.S. Marshal, the chameleon personality of a private investigator, and a former prostitute and stripper.
As the death toll reaches six, things begin to come together in a bizzare turn of events leading up to a sting operation and a high-speed chase through the streets of St. Louis. The car chase culminates in the perp jumping into the Misissippi River followed by the private investigator.
