Old,Gay & Fabulous, a memoir

When I was 5 years old I was taken to see my Russian grandmother who was dying of diabetes. She waved for me to come closer, but I couldn't hear her so I climbed up on the bed and I put my ear close to her mouth and she whispered, "You are royalty. You are a direct descendant of Catherine the Great, Mother of all Russia. Kenny, one day you will be a queen." I said, "I know grandmom." I never found out when that was going to be revealed to the world, but from that day forth the gate of my walk, my manner and demeanor changed forever.

Old, Gay & Fabulous, a memoir, is a story about my imperial life and trying to rise above the circumstances that I had no control over, particularly discovering at the age of 13 my mother was a lesbian wearing a leather jacket and motorcycle cap in the 50s before Brando.

It was very painful and embarrassing having a mother, who was not only less imperial than I was, but more macho than I was as a teenager.

Our childhood and teenage years were very difficult, not only for me, but my brother and sister because we just didn't understand, and when we began to understand, disbelief took over. Ironically I was finally acknowledged as a queen in New York City at the age of 18 but it was made clear to me if I wanted to succeed as an actor, I would have to give up the throne and so I did.

From the age of 18 to 72, I have lived and loved in New York City and managed to keep my head up and my mouth open through the debauchery of the 60s and 70s while maintaining an acting and writing career. I wish my Russian grandmother was still alive. This is a story of beginning again and again and again.
