Absence of Seasons

Maggie Mackenzie has everything she ever dreamed of – a wonderful marriage, a blossoming writing career, and a baby on the way. When her husband dies suddenly, Maggie is forced to start her life over again. With her infant daughter, she moves to a small town in Georgia to a Victorian house she has inherited from her great aunt. Grieving and alone, Maggie struggles to come to terms with her husband’s death. Maggie begins to feel a sense of hope when she meets Bethany, a young woman she hires as a babysitter, and Jason, a teacher in the town. They have both recently suffered losses of their own, and it is through her friendship with them that Maggie begins to find answers. However, it is through the discovery of her great aunt’s journals that Maggie learns the true meaning of strength and survival, as she begins to piece together the truth about her father’s death in a plane crash – a tragedy that has haunted her since she was a little girl.
Looking back on what she has lost in her life, Maggie questions whether taking risks is worth the pain that sometimes follows. As her friendship with Jason deepens, she wonders if it might be possible to love again. Absence of Seasons is a novel about loss and hope, and the unbreakable bonds of family and friendship.
