The Refuge

He came to this rocky, deserted coastline to escape. To escape from the unrelenting pressures of his job, from phone calls from shiftless in-laws, from his ex-wife, from the agony of no longer having control over his kids. Here in the often-violent north Pacific shore winds that tore at the roots of his hair and slapped rain and salt spray in his face, he could shut out the whole backstabbing, money-grubbing, bitching, whining pack of vulture-eyed hyenas. Here he could just listen. Listen to and enjoy and hide in the sounds of the sea.
