Doris Poe's Poems

I, Doris Poe, was born on June 13th, 1928, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the family of Hessie McGinnis White and Walden B. White. I was the sixth child of nine children. My parents were mill workers. During the Depression, we had plenty to eat, thanks to our mother. She saw that we had gardens filled with all kinds of vegetables and fruits, which she canned.

I married Clarence O. Poe in 1944 in Greenback, Tennessee. We raised six children, and my husband passed away in 1982. Since then, I have worked some and helped with the grandchildren. I read a lot now and was forever writing poems throughout my life.
