The Madness of King Saul

Three hundred-fifty years after arriving in the Promised Land, the people of Israel demanded the prophet Samuel make them a king. Despite Samuel's warning, the people insisted he yield to their wish. Seeing their persistent stubbornness, God told Samuel to grant what they wanted. Eventually God chose Saul from the tribe of Benjamin who embodied the physical characteristics of an earthly king. Saul was tall, handsome, and a natural born military leader. Although a godly man, who enforced the Levitical law against witches and wizards, he soon proved fallible. Over time Saul gave into the sins of pride and rebellion, and the Lord regretted His choice for king. Rather than repent of his iniquities, Saul set the stage for having the kingdom violently wrestled from his grasp.
