The gods exist and can (and will) talk to us freely, using our modern language (not "thee" and "my children"), providing us with insights, understandings and answers we all long for and, once shared, seem obvious, simple, loving and full of humor.

So it is with my favorite deity, Aphrodite, goddess of love, sex, human bonding, the force that brings us together, bringing us the completion and wholeness we always long for and which, though it's the Great Mystery, is really no great mystery -- just something clouded over by all our social codes, religious scriptures and supposedly angry gods (they're not angry).

The long exchange with Aphrodite (Venus to Romans, Freya to the Norse, Isis to the Egyptians) took place at the low point in my life, when love and money were both going down the tubes and I wondered what the big meaning of it all was. I would wake up at 4 in the morning and tap out my questions in the dark, drinking black tea and listening to Her amazingly charming, dear, wise and funny answers. Of course, you can say this is just mind stuff coming out of my own unconscious -- but you can say that about anything. And maybe it's true, who knows?

I just know she was there for me and saved my life, sanity and hope and that I've gone on to great new vistas in love, money and everything else. In the Homeric Hymns, penned about 1000 BCE, Aphrodite's epithets were "Lover of Smiles" and "She, to Whom All Things Are Possible." Why would they call her that?

Well, the smiles come when we realize love, like a flower, is opening in our lives, though it might go on for a night, a year, a life. It is the great miracle and beauty in life, leading to children, estates, novels, careers, sanity, all hope -- even if it can be fleeting. We must let it be what it is and wants to be, because we can't control or own or claim it. It just is. That is Her big message.

The Norse called Freya "the giving one" who absolutely answers all prayers. They say all the gods may be gone, wiped out by organized religion, except one. Freya "she who still lives." So, if you seek one deity from ancient times who is still functioning with us and cannot be killed off, this is she, the great mother figure who encompasses human love and from whom the new generation flows.

I am not special, a prophet or channel or chosen one. We all are. Anyone can do that, speak words from the Divine Ones, although I do think it helps to be desperate and really want to, down to your toes and deeper. And so I was when these words came through. Let her touch your heart, because her words were sent and meant with love. How else could they be meant? Enjoy.
