Rational Madness is an offbeat story about an overly imaginative, young woman who uses a bizarre coping mechanism to survive tragedy and overcome her quarter-life crisis. On a darkly humorous journey to find a new life and love, she discovers how to fit into a world from which she once felt shut out.

Felice Perreault is unraveling from the illegitimate grief and annihilating guilt triggered by the death of a decade-long lie. Recognizing that Felice is developing a bit of a death wish, her snarky friend (Cassis) steps in and urges her to run from her apocalyptic past. With the exception of a large wooden rat from childhood and some necessities, Felice abandons everything and flees New York, finding misadventures and oddities of life on a road trip across the United States. All the while, she still feels like half of something somebody took a bite of and put back on a plate—abandoned, disconnected, hearing the echoes of past institutionalization as an adolescent and dragging around the memory of a dead man like a phantom limb she can’t hack off.

When Felice stumbles across acclaimed photojournalist and environmentalist Griffin Ross via the Internet, she conceives the brilliant solution to her crisis:  to better herself by becoming the incredible woman who could inspire this world class man. And…it works. So much so, after spending time with her in Texas, Griffin invites her to live with him in San Francisco to help re-establish her life. But for anyone who’s ever hidden themselves from someone in a relationship, they know she faces yet another crisis when the truth starts coming out—and when she also discovers that Griffin isn’t who she thinks he is.
