A Daughter of the Snows by Jack London

London's first novel, A DAUGHTER OF THE SNOWS, tells the story of Frona Welse, an educated upper-class woman who journeys to the Yukon during the 1890s. There, she upsets her father's sensibilities by befriending the town prostitute. The use of strong, independent, well-educated heroines would run through much of London's later works.
