Harry reaches the peak of his academic powers following a picaresque summer, wandering out west selling mags. He is now taking Creative Writing, a course offered by the famous literary critic, RP Blackmur. His tutor, a recognized poet, takes to Harry and ultimately offers him a job as curator of the Poetry Room in Firestone Library. Harry revels in this, especially after unexpectedly meeting Evie, the girl of his dreams, who stumbles into the Poetry Room during a cloud burst. She's the only visitor he has had, before or after. It blossomed into spontaneous love, and a bizarre affair at Dial Lodge, his Eating Club. Harry gets bounced, and has to consult his Uncle Jack for strategy to get back in. It all works out, and Harry passes a course he never attended.
