Diary of a young Charlotte, North Carolina clerk who joined the Charlotte Grays in 1861 and served as a Confederate sharpshooter throughout the Civil War. His narrative primarily describes events in Virginia and many of the major battles in which the Army of Northern Virginia engaged. He also served in the eastern North Carolina theater during the first half of 1863. His experiences and observations provide the perspective of a private Southern soldier in the ranks throughout the War, including several months as a prisoner of war; 87 pages.
