This short comic novel follows the misguided, or err-otic, adventures of a psychotherapist named Dr. Robert Knott. His wife, Emily, is a psychiatrist and so outranks him professionally. Both could use a marriage counselor but neither is inclined. Dr. Knott has a very sexy secretary named Marta whom he fantasizes about but does not approach. One of the doctor’s patients reveals that he thinks his girlfriend is seeking a lesbian relationship behind his back. Dr. Knott gets the idea that he might present himself as a lesbian seeking a female partner and posts an ad to personals section of the Village Voice. He is intrigued by a response from a certain Amanda. Thereafter, Amanda and Roberta engage in a series of lustful love letters with the apparent of intent of paving the way to an eventual in-person meeting. Between letters, Dr. Knott finds himself in a number of potentially adventuresome situations, whether at his office counseling his patients, roaming the streets of Manhattan, or at the Jersey shore on vacation.
