Cawnpore

1857: After 100 years of British rule, India is a powder keg of racial and political tension. Rumors of sedition and rebellion against the East India Company are rife. Into the small garrison town of Cawnpore come Captain Richard Fortune, a political officer tasked with discovering and stopping any possible revolt by the local potentate, Nana Sahib, a man whose successor is about to be stripped of his title and lands under a new policy.

Fortune works his way into the society of the British garrison and the Indian court, flaunting the expectations of both when he falls for Shobha, a dancing girl in Nana's household. With her aid, he uncovers the truth about the mutinous intentions of natives, but will his discovery to be too late?
