A Prairie Labyrinth, Book 2 of A Prairie Trilogy (Books 1 and 3 are, respectively, Awakening in Prairie Light and Prairie Elms: The Ladies and Gentlemen of Plano, IL), continues the journey begun in Book 1. Often, however, life’s journey becomes complex, circular, and labyrinth-like. I thus chose the structure above for this collection since the nature of the poems matched a labyrinth. As with all labyrinths, there is only one path to the center and the same path to bring you out. When you have reached the center, though, you are only halfway along your path. Briefly, the parts of a typical labyrinth are paths or circuits, labyrs or u-turns, lunations or cusps, a center, and invisible energy.. While the book is labyrinth like, the poems teem with their own u-turns, cusps, and energy.
