DOCTOR PASCAL is the twentieth and final novel of the Rougon-Macquart cycle by Emile Zola by Em. Set in the perioid 1872-1874, Dr. Pascal Rougon, a doctor in his sixties, belatedly discovers the joys of fatherhood with his mistress.
Pascal Rougon is a dedicated and selfless doctor interested in heredity. Using experimental methods, he is, to his mother’s dismay, using the members of his family as the field for his investigations.
