THREE SHORT WORKS

Three Short Works is a collection of three strikingly different short stories by Flaubert. It includes The Dance of Death; a prose poem in the voices of Death, Satan and Nero; The Legend of St Julian the Hospitaller, about the trials and apotheosis of a medieval saint; and A Simple Soul, which tells the story of the life of a selfless maiden in 19th century France. Each exhibits a mixture of realism and romanticism, for which Flaubert is renowned.
