My brother teased me recently that Skip is a "banking thriller," and we both laughed because "banking" and "thriller" aren't exactly synonymous. But that's what it is...a story of an old financial fraud that turns into a murder mystery. The novel is set in and around Charlotte, and the main character is a fraud and bankruptcy specialist at a big North Carolina bank. In the first chapter, he is approached by an old girlfriend who has been missing for five years. Sam thinks she was peripherally involved in a large bank theft back then, but she swears she was not, and asks for Sam's help in clearing her name. Sam's subsequent investigation into the old fraud turns up several clues, including one that points to the involvement of some of his bank's most senior people. He comes under surveillance, is offered a huge bribe by a private detective, and his house is burglarized. And when the old girlfriend goes missing, and the body of a woman washes up in Lake Norman, Sam's investigation takes a deadly serious turn. I hope you will enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it!
