This work, Monday or Tuesday, is Virginia Woolf’s first collection of short stories. The collection was followed by A Haunted House and Other Short Stories, published in 1944. In her career, Ms. Woolf published a total of four collections of short stories. This work was first published in 1921. This collection features eight stories; 1) A Haunted House; 2) A Society; 3) Monday or Tuesday; 3) An Unwritten Novel; 4) The String Quartet; 5) Blue & Green; 6) Kew Gardens; and 7) The Mark on the Wall.
Woolf described her approach to writing in 1919 as follows, “Examine for a moment an ordinary mind on an ordinary day. The mind receives a myriad impressions—trivial, fantastic, evanescent, or engraved with the sharpness of steel. From all sides they come, an incessant shower of innumerable atoms; and as they fall, as they shape themselves into the life of Monday or Tuesday.”
