Volume three - Light and Shadow - focuses on the unique lighting aspects of the remaining buildings of the Asylum. The buildings were constructed with the concept of beauty as being an integral element of the healing process, which included fresh air and sunlight. The photographer notes that, "During the early hours of morning, and the final moments of dusk, the building resonates with the vibrancy of a golden light." These qualities are pervasive through many of the images represented within this volume.
