Echoes of Distant Thunder

In the spring of 1772, with an unjustified price on his head for a crime he did commit and a heart tortured by a crime he could not prevent, young Matthew Maybin flees Ireland aboard the ship The Pennsylvania Farmer. Hoping to escape English tyranny, he arrives in Charles Town, South Carolina only to discover that the heavy hand of King George has the same strangle hold on the colonies as it did on his homeland.
Disillusioned, trying desperately to escape his dark past, Matthew makes his way deep into the southern Appalachians of North Carolina where he befriends an old man, a half-breed Cherokee named Thadis Smith.
The old man takes the young green horn under his wing, teaching him the ways of the mountains and the Cherokee people who lived there.
Soon this vast wilderness of dark forest trails and cold mountain streams becomes his new home, but dark clouds are gathering along the distant mountain tops. War is coming and along with it, disaster for an already trouble people.
