He portrayed himself as a happy-go-lucky guy enjoying “yet another day in paradise.” It was a lie. To everyone, he was “the luckiest guy, continually perched on top of the world.” It was a mask he wore well. He struggled with monstrous temper tantrums and bouts of deep depression. No one knew. He was, after all, the Pied Piper, loved by all and wildly successful in everything he did. When he took his own life, there were whispers; but they were replaced with another lie…a surfing accident.

Rain Dance is the story of a remarkable man who lost his way, and about his loving wife who lost herself trying desperately to help him. Harkey honors the life of a good man: her lover, her husband, the father of her two children, her best friend, a creative giant, a businessman, and a surfer. She reassembles the fragments of her own life after she loses him and the successful world they built together. She demonstrates that it is not what happens to you that ultimately matters—it is what you choose to do with the pieces that remain. Rain Dance illustrates that it is not events, but your response to those events that reforms your life—even if you have lost everything.
