Zoe West originally became a doctor to make her father proud. Now, as a first year medical intern at the prestigious Baltimore City Hospital, Zoe finds herself standing in the ER, unsure that she belongs, and terrified that she will not measure up. When sexy third year resident, Jack Boxer, asks her out, Zoe is set on an emotional rollercoaster that ranges from the elation she feels with Jack, to her distress at the horrible treatment she encounters from the jealous nursing staff. And that is just the first week.

Throughout the rest of the year, Zoe must face the harsh realities of working in a hospital. From the hypochondriacs, to the medical mysteries, to her own phobias, and confronting the painful realization that she cannot save everyone, Zoe must determine whether she is cut out for medicine. Hopefully, if she ever finds the time, she will also be able to figure out the rest of her life as well.
