The Island of Doctor Moreau is about an island where the narrator, Edward Prendick, is shipwrecked on a tropical island and saved by Moreauís helper, Montgomery. Moreau is a vivisectionist shunned by conventional society due to his scientific activities, which includes conducting experiments on animals in order to manipulate and improve their traits. He has been on the island for eleven years.
The science fiction novel The Island of Doctor Moreau never appeared in serialized form. It was first published as a book in April of 1896 by Heinemann of London and in August of the same year in the United States. The story has been adapted to film five times.
