This is Metropolis, the novel that the film's screenwriter -- Thea von Harbou, who was director Fritz Lang's wife, and a collaborator in the creation of the film -- this is the novel that Harbou wrote from her own notes. It contains bits of the story that got lost on the cutting-room floor; in a very real way it is the only way to understand the film. If you like the movie you will love the book. It fills in the gaps from the movie and gives much more detail to the story. The suspense in this book is phenomenal and many extra scenes are action packed. I even cried at the end and there was only one other book I cried at. I even knew what happens at the end because I saw the movie and I still cried. Even if you have never seen the movie this is an excellent book about the roles of men and technology.
