First, Kate met a talking tree and then the forest tried to eat her. Which sucked. Of course, her mysterious magi father attempting to kidnap her sucked too. In terms of suckiness, her life couldn’t get more screwed up.

When her grandmother finally agrees to tell Kate about her elven heritage (to prevent further life-suckingness), nothing could prepare her for the truth. Or more specifically, for the connection she and James share, a connection spanning centuries.
