We women are great at multi-tasking. “We can bring home the bacon, fry it up in the pan, and never let our guy forget he’s a man. ‘Cuz We are women!” The only problem is, too often we get so busy “tasking” we forget to complete any one task and we never get started on the most important tasks given to us. Wives - supporting our husband. Mothers – raising our children. Homemakers – keeping our homes running. Employees – doing our jobs. Friends – listening.
The world today is telling us that we must be Super Women; women who can work both outside and inside the home, women who can do everything and do it successfully. Well, it’s time we stop listening to the world, take off the Superwoman costume and learn what God wants us to be.
I began this journey looking for myself. You see I was lost. My identity had always been centered on my children. They dictated my wardrobe. But who are you and how do you dress when your youngest child becomes an adult? I couldn’t base my wardrobe on my job, I’m a substitute teacher, and there isn’t enough to base an identity on. I didn’t want to base my wardrobe on “housewife” I hate cleaning. So what was I to do, my identity closet was empty, I had nothing to wear.
The Wardrobe of a Virtuous Woman is based on Proverbs 31:10-31. Every day we have a specific wardrobe we are expected to wear, whether it’s a uniform for work, or blue jeans and a t-shirt for cleaning the house. No one except Lisa Douglas on Green Acres would think to feed the chickens in her fur lined lingerie. The rest of us dress according to who we are and the job we are doing.
Each chapter introduces one new piece of clothing to our closet where we can try it out for fit and color preference, and hopefully become comfortable wearing it before we reach for the next item from God’s wardrobe.
God knows each of us are different sizes and have different skin tones, likes and dislikes. God’s Virtuous Women is not one size fits all nor one color palate. She will
not be found hanging on racks in any store, and you will never walk into a place and find someone wearing your outfit. God has your Virtuous Woman wardrobe designed just for you and only for you.
