Mardi and a Voyage Thither

MARDI is a two-volume early work by Herman Melville. It details the the travelings and musings of a disillusioned American sailor who abandons his whaling vessel to explore the South Pacific. A more philosophical work than Melville's earlier OMOO and TYPEE, the work examines the peoples and cultures of the South Pacific as envisioned by Melville. MARDI includes many similar themes to MOBY DICK and is written in a similar style.
