Sources of the Constitution of the United States

In 1894, Charles Ellis Stevens, better known as C. Ellis Stevens (1853-1906), wrote Sources of the Constitution of the United States, which compares the text of the Constitution to the colonial charters and governments before the Revolution as well as English Common Law and the history of the British Empire. Through these comparisons Stevens traces the origins of the Constitution and what the Founding Fathers meant in drafting the language.
