This science fiction novelette tells the story of Andrew Landon, a miner on distant Forlornia where vast mining conglomerates had, for the most part, abandoned the once ore rich southern part of the great continent. Small mining companies still operated, and a few larger ones, but the once rich Forlornia was slowly turning into a backwater, where escape for most was impossible.
The only promise was the vast northern part of the Great Continent called the Krasnov Wilderness, where most believed even greater ore deposits existed, but no one had been able to mine there. The Krasnov is covered in almost impenetrable Rockwood forests. Therein lives one monster that owns both night and day. The giant mammal is named Corvus Dragon, though with only a vague resemblance to the mythical beast. The name only increased the fear the carnivores caused in the heart of every miner.
Andrew Landon has a plan to be the first to mine the Krasnov Wilderness, while battling his own private demons in his life. Will he succeed or just be the latest casualty of Forlornia?
