Treatments for Myopia: Acupuncture, Orthokeratology, and Pirenzepine

Myopia is commonly treated using corrective lenses; however, this form of treatment does not help prevent further myopic development and may even exacerbate the degree of progressive refractive errors.

Several treatments shown to slow myopic progression, and even possibly reversing it, are acupuncture, orthokeratology, and administration of pirenzepine eye drops. These treatments seem to suggest that ciliary muscle tension is an important factor in the development of myopia.
