Will Argueta’s stories of his childhood in El Salvador are both fascinating and disturbing. The untimely and unusual death of his father has clearly made an impact in his life and in his writing. The influence of coming of age, with little guidance, in a country ravaged by civil war is apparent in nearly every verse. Will’s poetry is filled with adolescent anger and discovery. The vision of Delicias as a farming community of natural beauty and a simple lifestyle is overtaken by images of fear, death, and destruction that eventually become commonplace to a young boy learning to be a man.
