Lego art is a skill that has always been a bit beyond my capabilities. Perhaps it is because I am much better at describing art, than I am at creating art. I creative skills seem to be limited to words. But I digress. The subject at hand is the growing pastime of creating art by using Lego's. My son is quite skilled at this at his ripe old age of 6. I am always finding myself amazed at his creativity and the level of skill (I call it skill because it is something that I can't do) involved in the act of creating these masterpieces.

I always think of an episode of "While You Were Out", a popular home improvement reality type television show that airs on TLC, when I think of Lego art. One particular episode featured a teacher whose method of stress relief was to build things from Lego blocks. I'm not talking about little figurines, I'm talking about intricate grandfather clocks, entertainment centers, picture frames, and end tables. Her entire house was reminiscent of a Lego museum. And while I thought the idea would have been cute for a child's room, I found the idea of an entire house a little more than my little mind could handle.

For this particular woman, Lego art was an addiction. For every item they removed from her home during the process of her room makeover (one room mind you), she stayed up most of the night creating replacement items. It was quite disconcerting but I can relate on some level. We all have things that we are compulsive about and this was her form of stress relief-home improvement projects are quite stressful. It was a nice idea she had that brought her to the show, she wanted to give her husband a Lego free room. The plan didn't work out in the end, it was too much for her to take, but she did seriously limit the Lego's in the room, which was a vast improvement.
