This book is a page turner, the kind you simply can’t put down. Mr. Tuccille is an accomplished writer, and his skills are put to good use in this remarkable story. When his father suffers a life-threatening illness, Mr. Tuccille learns that he has hidden in his basement eight paintings, by artists like Chagall, Matisse, Morisot, and Pissarro, that were stolen by his nephew years before. The book chronicles the author’s attempts to get rid of the paintings and protect his father from prosecution while negotiating a raft of quirky relatives; wildly incongruous, humorous, and sometimes dangerous situations; a gubernatorial race; the sudden loss of a career and the nearly overnight start of a new one; with no experience, as a stockbroker; and his own conflicted feelings for his father. Mr. Tuccille has a strong narrative voice and sense of pacing. His characterizations are vivid, his conversations are realistic, and his description interesting and apt. This book would be enjoyable reading for people interested in true-life crime stories and for anyone looking for a good read. Excellent in all respects.
