In the late 19th century as the American theater is entering a golden age, the most famous celebrity photographer is Napoleon Sarony. Standing almost 5'1" in his cavalry boots, his Hussar's uniform, and a Turkish fez, Sarony is New York's most acclaimed portraitist, sought after by virtually every actor and actress on the broadway stage.

Of his forty thousand portraits, expressive, unconventional poses are his speciality. When flamboyantly printgs his signature in red ink on every photograph, he becomes a celebrity himself. Thus, when his reputation is faulted and he is accused of ruining the career of a famous actress and causing the death of another, he denies the accusations and determines to solve this injury to his professional standing--NO MATTER WHAT HE HAS TO DO!
