There are many dedicated people working with dependent children, children who are physically abused, sexually abused, neglected, or abandoned. This is about one particular group in the dependency continuum, child abuse investigators. When a call comes into a hot line, they are the ones who actually hit the streets, immediately or within 24 hours to go into the home to complete an assessment often with parents who are hostile and sometimes combative. They carry notepads instead of guns and keep their wits about them even in the face of real danger. The work attracts strong women and men of character who believe in what they are doing.

This is a work of fiction and a little over the top to keep the pages turning.It is a good read, a rollicking thriller laced with serious social issues, cops, and murder.
