The author from Caguas Amaury Figueroa Perez, alias Amun Fig, tells the experience of some members of the school community in his novel "La Escuela." (The School) This novel tells the story about the different experiences that teenagers go through at times during the school year in the collapsed education system. Written in simple and understandable language, Amun Fig combines in the plot: suspense, action, black humor and comedy.

Social content topics such as: school dropouts, broken homes, politics, corruption and abuse of power are raised in “Amun Fig’s” book on a peculiar puertorrican narrative style.

This literary proposal is a book suited to hear the stories of a social class forgotten by many, especially by the government that is supposed to protect the constitutional right to education. The author disrupts the most important thing in a human being, its soul. The story's main character, during his first day of classes in high school is faced with a day of momentous changes and overwhelming experiences. This becomes part of his radical changes in personality. Accelerated decision-making, violence, and possible crimes; are part of the students’ daily lives, where the struggle between their dignity and to decide between good and evil, and taking the law into their own hands, are joined with a touching ending and total analysis for the reader.

"La Escuela" is a tale unique in its class, enabling analysis of the reality of the people. The radiography of the social strata who lacks mental stability because of a sick society. At the same time, "La Escuela" has a negative impact that produces the various branches of corruption, political favoritism and the neglecting of the ruling government to the collapse of the Department of Education.

The creation of this singular story, positions the author, among the Puerto Rican writers that present the unique stories of the people, among Luis Rafael Sánchez and Esmeralda Santiago, being “Amun", part of this important literary legacy for future generations. Amun Fig used all the ideal elements to create a story that should be used for the study of social problems in a Puerto Rico in the 21 st century in the schools where education is imparted.

After the novel was successfully promoted in Orlando and Tampa, Florida, the author Amún Fig will visit Puerto Rico to promote the novel that has been generating a buzz for its realistic theme. The official presentation of such intriguing novel is scheduled for April 7, 2011 in Librería Isla in El Paseo de Diego, Rio Piedras at 7:00 pm. This presentation will be made by Awilda Caez, Puerto Rican writer (Adios, Mariana y otras despedidas) and Profesor Juan Antonio Torres, a professor at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus.
