The Three Dollar Scholar was written by Jon Finkel, author of previous monthly advice columns in GQ and Muscle & Fitness magazines. He wrote as The Body Guru for GQ and as The Fitnessologist for M&F. He has also written for ComedyCentral.com, the New York Times and Men’s Health magazine, among others. Having out-gurued his fellow magazine gurus and outlasted nearly every other -ologist on the literary block, he has now turned to writing as The Three Dollar Scholar.

You’re probably thinking, “First a guru, then an -ologist, then a scholar? How is that possible for such a young man?”

Jon knows this list of fake titles is getting lengthy, but he steadfastly refuses to reveal the secret to making up pseudonyms that falsely create a sense of expertise. As such, he won’t drop any of the names that imply knowledge, as he has proudly earned them or invented them on his meteoric rise through the advice columnist ranks.

As a man of the people, Jon felt that in these tough economic times it was unfair for his readers to have to buy a year-long subscription to a magazine just to get his thoughts and advice. While trying to find a way to reach his audience in a cost-effective manner, the Three Dollar Scholar was born.

For less than the cost of a single magazine issue, Jon is offering an entire book of advice on everyday topics ranging from how to pick a great name for your pet (Rule 7: Names based on a dog’s physical traits are uninspired and unacceptable: Fluffy, Snowy, Midnight, Brownie, Whitey… In fact, if your dog’s name could in some way be misinterpreted as a racial slur, avoid it), to dealing with Global Globing (he’ll explain that), to why McDonald’s should give in and sell the Mac Daddy (he’ll explain that, too). Whether you need to pick a college, name your child, declare a fast-food burger champion, or figure out how Chubby Checker got his name, The Three Dollar Scholar is there for you, offering moderately researched, unsolicited opinions on the topics that matter most.
