Akhnaton (also known as Akhenaten) ruled as Pharoah of Egypt during the 18th Dynasty, from 1353 – 1336 B.C. During his reign, Akhnaton attempted to institute a monotheistic religion, the worship of Aten. This religion would dissipate after his death, as Egypt returned to its traditional polytheistic worship. He is also noteworthy because of his marriage to Queen Nefertiti.
