Guiding Steel Walls

The Washington D.C. Subway line has a secret. Every day, you can find an old bum named Wilk on the Metro Center platform, standing next to his coffee can. For the change in your pocket he’ll guide you anywhere you need to go, provided you’re willing to listen to a story or two about how he wound up with a bad heart.

When Wilk is the only one to witness a possible kidnapping, he finds himself in a moralistic quandary.Would anyone be willing to take a bum at face value? Or is it just his old, feeble mind playing tricks? Despite his own restraints, Wilk’s bad heart tells him to believe it, and so he does.

He presses on to stop a kidnapping with only misplaced confidence as his guide.
