James Allen was born in Leicester, England in 1864. Unfortunately, his career as a writer was very short, lasting only nine years until his death in 1912. After finishing his first book, From Poverty To Power, he moved to Ilfracombe, in England where he then wrote his classic As A Man Thinketh; the book for which he is best remembered. Although it is widely acknowledged as a masterpiece of New Thought writing, he was somewhat dissatisfied with the end-product; and we have his wife, Lily, to thank for finally persuading him to have it published.
