It was a peaceful time for Loshiar, a country founded by mages. That fragile peace was soon to be shattered as Kronis, a mysterious man who appears from nowhere, instigates a war with the magi. The purpose for this is power, for with every soul he takes he becomes stronger. What better way to achieve this goal than by having thousands of soldiers trying to destroy each other?

Caught up in the maelstrom is Ruen, a young warrior who is always anxious to show off his sword skills by rushing headlong into a fight, no matter the odds. He drags along his two friends, one a female ranger who has secrets of her own, the other a hot-headed sorceress with a cynical tongue and an acid wit.
