Aurelius Ambrosius, known in English as Saint Ambrose was a bishop of Milan who became one of the most influential ecclesiastical figures in religious history. One of the four original doctors of the Church, St. Ambrose is the author of the incredible On Repentance, sometimes referred to as Concerning Repentance.

These two books were written against the Novatian heresy. The work was the outcome of a debate, which had long existed in the Church about the question of the restitution to Church privileges of those who had fallen into sin, and the possibility repentance.
