This a novel detailing the lives of some Sicilian emigrants who came to America in the latter part of the 19th century and worked on Louisiana plantations. It is a based on actual events and it focuses on the immigrants' struggle to adjust to the American ways of living, to the new language while fighting against the discrimination directed against Sicilians and Blacks.
